“Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself” is the culmination of my longstanding appreciation for 7/8, hence its 7-syllable title. The piece explores a variety of different emotions by modulating through various modal tonalities and groupings of 2 and 3. The piece may be of pedagogical utility for those looking to increase their comfort playing in 7.
“Helena” was written as a composition assignment whose rubric necessitated the use of a variety of traditional middle-eastern rhythms and modal tonalities. The piece is divided into sections that note the traditional modes and rhythms employed, such as the Hijaz scale and Laz Bar rhythm.
